A psychology graduate is needed to serve as a classroom assistant at the Academy of Autism Specialists in the Northwold/Randburg area. Must have a desire to teach and work with children on the autism spectrum within a classroom setting. Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Monday to Friday Terms: 4 school terms per year RNeg in experience training included – The ideal candidate will have a degree in Psychology or an Early Childhood Development qualification – The minimum degree Enrollment with proof of ongoing studies will also be valued – South African applications will be given preference, but candidates with valid work permits will also be considered. – The candidate must have a strong interest in working with children with learning and language difficulties who are between 2 and 7 years of age. – Candidates must be passionate, patient, diligent, quick-thinking, hard-working, mature for their age. – Computer literacy is essential – Essential English – Candidates with some child related work experience will be preferred, but experience is not essential as this is an entry level position. Duties will include: – Work with children on the autism spectrum in a 4:1 ratio group setting – Daily implementation of game-based therapy / learning activities. – Help children become independent through the implementation of therapies and an academic curriculum. – Help children with day-to-day activities including toileting, feeding, dressing, and daily living skills. – Help maintain a well-run, clean and orderly classroom. – Assistance during functions and parties. – On-the-job training in a variety of activities such as lesson planning, behavioral intervention, autism-specific teaching techniques, first aid, sign language, AAC communication implementation, etc. Only graduate level candidates will be considered for this position and only qualified candidates will be contacted for interviews.
